Terry Rasmussen oversees Thrivent Financial for Lutherans’ legal, compliance, business risk management and government affairs departments consisting of approximately 145 professionals responsible for managing the legal and regulatory risks of its business. In addition, as corporate secretary, she is responsible for Thrivent’s corporate governance.
Prior to joining Thrivent Financial in 2005, Rasmussen served in a variety of legal positions with American Express, now Ameriprise Financial. She joined Ameriprise in 1990.
Prior to her role at Ameriprise, she served as general counsel of Northeast Securities Corp., a family-owned bank holding company, and as an associate with the law firm of Oppenheimer, Wolff and Donnelly, both located in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Terry began her legal career in 1984 as part of the United States Attorney General’s honors program where she was a trial attorney in the tax division of the US Department of Justice in Washington DC.
A native of Fergus Falls, Minnesota, she is a graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead where she received her bachelor’s degree in accounting. After passing the CPA exam, she earned her juris doctorate degree from the University of North Dakota.
Rasmussen is a member of the Board of Directors of the National Fraternal Congress of America, MacPhail Center for Music and Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota. Additionally, she serves on the finance and audit committees of Trinity Lutheran Church in Long Lake, Minnesota.
